As relevant as this poster is today, believe it or not, it was created during WWII to promote victory gardens. Encouraged by the federal government to supplement scarce fruit and vegetable supplies, more than 20 million Victory Gardens were planted throughout the US. It was estimated that 40% of all vegetables eaten nationally during the later war years were harvested from these gardens.
The Cultivating Roots Garden has a goal to produce more than 500 lbs. of carrots, radishes, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, peas, strawberries, broccoli, potatoes, and the list goes on and on.... While this is a lot of produce, it is nowhere close to supplying even 1% of vegetables eaten nationally. Are you planting a garden this spring?
